* The TBAR (Tip to Butt Aspect Ratio) Algorithm is the determining flex factor, although we do apply common flex range description to help players determine which golf shaft is best suited for their level of play.

All Penley shafts are designed primarily to meet the 1 (mid-range) of each shaft flex and fits approximately ~60%  of players.

WHO SHOULD PURCHASE THE HH2?

A player that is looking for a standalone Hybrid (or rescue) shaft and who is endeavoring to improve their ball striking ability, carrying distance and accuracy.

The Hybrid Heater2 was developed with a higher kick point to keep the ball from ballooning to accommodate USGA groove rules. If you want a hybrid shaft that gives you the best ball trajectory and avoiding ballooning or overshooting the green, then the Hybrid Heater2 is for you.

R – Generally 80-95 mph. – slower tempo

S – Generally 96-105 mph. – mid tempo

X – Generally 106-115 mph. – fast tempo

HH2 DESIGN DRIVERS

Ball trajectory is vital. A high trajectory (ballooning) leaves the player short, and a low (flat) trajectory gives the player too much roll, overshooting the green. The better ball strike is one that launches the ball a few degrees higher than the loft of the head and carries 80% of the distance to the target and then drops at a 50 to 55 degree angle to the target surface with virtually a soft impact and very little roll, allowing the player to achieve their desired distance with accuracy and confidence with every strike.

HYBRID HEATER2 DESIGN THEORY:
  • Increase shaft weight over original 80 gram model
  • Higher kick point to keep the ball from ballooning to accommodate USGA groove rules
  • Incorporate “Tip to Butt Aspect Ratio” (TBAR) to stabilize shaft integrity for maximum accuracy and “FEEL”.

The Hybrid Heater 2 takes the original Hybrid Heater to the next level and allows the player to achieve their desired distance with accuracy and confidence with every strike. Penley shafts are designed to improve the players ball striking ability.

The TBAR (Tip to Butt Aspect Ratio)

By analysis Penley determined that 60% of most golfers fall within flex range ‘1’ of the each and separate specific golf shaft flex ranges. ‘1’ is the center (1/3) of the full flex range (yellow dotted lines, 3-7). Penley tolerances are typically held to ~30%-40% of industry standards.

The shaft industries standard flex range is dynamically much larger and in many cases overlaps corresponding flexes. This is why some players who may need to build a backup club, or a replacement shaft for their club ends up finding out that the backup or or replacement shaft doesn’t feel or play the same as the first shaft model.

All Penley shafts are designed primarily to meet the 1 (mid-range) of each shaft flex. This  ‘1’ range is denoted  as A1, R1, S1, X1, 2X1 & 3X1 – etc and fit approximately ~60% ~ of players.

 

ZFlex Red

Flex range and Zone flexes are determined by Penley’s TBAR™ (Tip to Butt Aspect Ratio) algorithm and are somewhat infinite vs. the long time excepted flex terminology.

To quantify Zone Flex Characterization, Penley has selected eight specific zone flexes outside of a predetermined flex range denoted numerically as ‘1’ (Penley’s Std. Range ‘1’) of each defined flex range i.e. ‘L1’, ‘A1’, ‘R1’, ‘S1’ and ‘X1’ and so on.
